Healthcare Resource Providers functions as an independent consultant, specializing in the business aspects of radiology.  Our principals have direct experience in practice management, including both hospital-based groups and imaging centers.  HRP recommendations aren’t based on vague theory from an MBA course, but from “hands dirty” experience improving productivity and profitability.

At any given time, we maintain one long-term management contract to ensure our knowledge and experience remain current.  We firmly believe you can’t effectively run today’s practice based on what was successful five years ago!

Our clients have included:

            Hospital-based radiology practices

            Imaging centers

            Billing companies seeking to improve performance

            Software vendors desiring industry knowledge and feedback

We have also worked with hospitals from time to time, but have limited that aspect of our work to those entities seeking to improve performance (not to get even with a radiology group).

We have continually resisted the encouragement from industry peers to grow rapidly.  Our preference is to handle fewer engagements in a given year rather than attempt to oversee an army of junior associates trying to learn the ropes.  On the other hand, we occasionally tap into a limited number of select strategic partners with proven track records as long as we can control the final results.

Each report is customized for the client—and we spend a significant amount of time developing our reports, which we have been told are the most comprehensive in the business.  They also include specific recommendations, not just a re-hash of where the problems lie and a “good luck” in solving them.  Groups who take action on our recommendations get results.

Patricia (Pat) Kroken, FACMPE, CRA

Pat is a former radiology practice administrator with extensive experience in strategic planning, billing/collections process improvement, managed care contracting, business development, facilitation of hospital/radiology group issues and compliance plan development, implementation and oversight. 

Pat maintains an active and ongoing commitment to radiology, authoring more than 100 articles in leading industry publications.  She is a sought-after speaker for state and national meetings, receiving consistent commendations for the meaty content and applicability of her programs.

Pat is a Past President of the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) and is Chair of the RBMA Editorial Advisory Committee.  She also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Radiology Assembly and is a columnist for the national publications of the RBMA and American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA).  She is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a Certified Radiology Administrator.

Phillip W. Carmody, MD

Dr. Carmody is Board Certified in both Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.  Throughout his career he was involved in imaging center and hospital-based practice management, as well as business development.  Dr. Carmody has experience in imaging center operations, physician strategic planning, hospital department operations and workflow, personnel management, equipment acquisition, oversight of a large interstate teleradiology contract and physician, hospital and managed care contracting.

Dr. Carmody continues to practice part-time and as a consultant, brings the value of a radiologist’s viewpoint to each engagement.  He and Ms. Kroken have worked as a physician/administrator team for more than 18 years and credit much of their success to the ability to approach every engagement from their distinctly unique and complementary perspectives. 

Dr. Carmody has also published numerous practice management articles in leading radiology publications and is a member of the RBMA, where he formerly served on the Editorial Advisory Committee.
